From July 21 to July 31, 2023, the Scientific Research Association organized its 30th Summer Field Project on Mount Shar Planina. The project involved 20 members of the association, students from the Faculty of Pharmacy in Skopje. Participants were accommodated at the Smreki Mountain Lodge in Popova Shapka.

The field activities were conducted in two stages:

1. Assessment of the condition and resources of bilberry and juniper in Šar Mountain National Park using the line transect method;

2. Identification and collection of medicinal and aromatic plants.

Designed as a multi-year project, the assessment of bilberry and juniper resources aims to provide a foundation for the sustainable use of these natural products. Additionally, it contributes to a better understanding of the available resources in Šar Mountain National Park, with the goal of establishing proper natural resource management practices.

NIZ extends its sincere gratitude to all supporters involved in the realization of the project: the Faculty of Pharmacy – Skopje, the Macedonian Pharmaceutical Society, Vardarec Dairy, Ramus Laboratory, Aqua Dejon Plus, Vinchini, Ginekaliks, Alkaloid Skopje, and Max Strumica.

In addition to the above-mentioned activities, our young researchers had the opportunity to interact with the local population and build new friendships. Special thanks also go to Shar Planina National Park for their cooperation, hospitality, and support throughout the project.
